A hostel worker told me I was packing wrong and now I save $40 a trip
I was in a 6 bed dorm in Barcelona and this guy who worked there saw me trying to squish my duffel under the bed. He goes, "you're bringing a whole suitcase for a weekend, why not just a backpack and a grocery bag?" At first I rolled my eyes but then I thought about it. Next trip to Lisbon I took just a 30L backpack and a collapsible tote. No checked bag fee, no dragging wheels on cobblestone. Saved $40 right there on baggage alone. Has anyone else had someone call them out on overpacking and it actually stuck?

Push back hard on this honestly lol. @claire_fisher41 I get that it saves you baggage fees but those 28L packs kill your back after a few hours and you're stuck wearing the same shirt three days in a row. Plus that collapsible tote looks flimsy, mine ripped on a metro handrail in Paris and my stuff went everywhere. Rolling a duffel through cobblestone is annoying but at least I can haul a proper jacket and extra shoes without looking like a homeless traveler.

Swore by my rolling duffel for years until my cousin called it my "luggage anchor" on a trip to Prague. Got annoyed but tried her method - a 28L pack and a reusable shopping bag for souvenirs. No joke, saved like $35 on Ryanair fees alone and didn't have to wrestle it up metro stairs. Kinda embarrassing how long I fought it but yeah, she was totally right.
