Found a trick for scoring cheaper hostel beds in Lisbon last month
I was booking a dorm in Lisbon for 3 nights and noticed the price jumped $12 on weekends. So I shifted my stay to arrive on a Tuesday and it cut $36 off the total. Anyone else play with dates to dodge peak rates?

36 euros buys me dinner and a few drinks one night so if i can stretch my budget to afford another day of travel i'm absolutely shifting dates around. Hostels in lisbon already squeeze you for weekend rates when half the things you want to see are just as chill on a tuesday.

Whoa hold on, I'm gonna push back here. Shifting your whole trip just to save a few bucks on a hostel bed kind of kills the vibe of traveling spontaneously, you know? If you're flying all the way to Lisbon, you're probably already dropping a couple hundred on flights and food, so what's another thirty six dollars over three days? Plus, weekend nights are when the city actually comes alive with street parties, late night fado joints, and people just wandering around the old neighborhoods. You might end up saving cash but missing out on the best part of the experience because you're too focused on the spreadsheets. Sometimes it's worth just paying the premium and enjoying the full trip instead of nickel and diming yourself into a Tuesday night where everything's sleepy.
