Found a weird trick to book flights on Tuesday mornings for way less

I was looking at flights to Denver for a family thing back in March and the prices were just stupid, like $380 round trip. A buddy who flies for work told me to check on Tuesday mornings around 6am because airlines dump leftover inventory or whatever. I rolled my eyes but tried it for a weekend trip to Portland last month. Sure enough, the same route I was watching dropped to $210 on a Tuesday at 6:15am. I booked it right then and it held fine. Has anyone else seen this work consistently or was I just lucky with that one trip?
