Got burned using a third-party booking site for a flight to Chicago

I booked a cheap flight to Chicago last month through a site I found on Google. The price was way lower than the airline's own site, like $80 less. I felt smart until I got to the gate and they told me my ticket was invalid. The third-party site had used a fake name for the reservation. I spent 4 hours on hold with their customer service while my flight left without me. The airline made me buy a new ticket at full price, so I ended up paying $200 more than if I booked direct. Has anyone else had this happen with a specific booking site I should avoid?

Used to think the savings were worth it but that changed quick after reading your story.

Yeah I remember thinking "savings were worth it" too until my buddy tried to save on brake pads and ended up in a ditch. Sometimes cheap just means you get to pay more later, just with extra hassle.
