Had a train meltdown in Berlin that rerouted my whole trip

Missed my connection because Deutsche Bahn tracks caught fire near the Hauptbahnhof, so I spent 6 hours wandering Kreuzberg on a layover. Has anyone else found that forced detours end up being the best part of a trip?

Yeah the whole "forced detour" thing is real. I got stuck in Leipzig once for 8 hours because of a signal failure and ended up finding this tiny record shop that I still think about. Best part of that trip honestly.

I read somewhere that something like 60% of travelers say unplanned stops end up being their favorite memories. That stat totally tracks with my experience. I remember getting stuck in a tiny town in Austria for hours because of a mudslide on the rail line. Ended up at a random bakery eating the best apple strudel of my life while the owner showed me photos of his cat. Would never have found that place on purpose.
