I always packed a full checked bag until a flight to Austin cost me $70 extra

My friend pointed out his single backpack and said 'you're paying to carry your own stuff.' Anyone have a solid packing list for a week in one bag?

Oh man, that's the truth. I saw a guide once that said just pack three shirts, two pants, and layer everything. You really need more than that for a week?

That guide sounds like it was written by a robot, andrew916. I tried the three shirt method once and felt like a cartoon character by day four. Packing light is smart, but you still need to feel like a human being.

Campbell.logan is right about the cartoon character thing. My rule is five shirts for a week. Three is crazy. You need a clean one for each day, plus maybe an extra for dinner or if you spill something. I pack two pants, one shorts, and a jacket that goes with everything. Rolling everything tight is the real trick. Saves so much space.
