I finally found a $15 hostel in Bangkok that wasn't a total disaster

Spent 3 hours walking around Khao San Road trying to find a place under $20 that didn't smell like mold, turns out the trick is going two blocks off the main strip. Anyone else waste half a day just hunting for a decent cheap bed?

Main drag stuff is just the decoy so tourists don't find the good spots.
