Lost 4 hours trying to find a cheap hostel in Barcelona at 2 AM

Last summer I landed in Barcelona at midnight and spent 4 hours walking between hostels because Booking.com said they had rooms but the front desk didn't. Has anyone else had that "room not ready" problem with online booking sites late at night?

Oh man I learned the hard way too, now I always call ahead and confirm my booking before midnight.

I booked 47 hotel rooms last year for work trips and I never called anyone ahead of time. Every single booking went through fine even the ones I made at 2am. The confirmation email is legally binding in most states. If a hotel loses my reservation that's their problem not mine. I'm not going to call them to make sure they did their job right when the system already confirmed it. I'd rather spend that 10 minutes finding a hotel that actually has its stuff together.
