Remember when hostel kitchens actually had stuff to cook with?

I was in Prague back in 2014. Shared kitchen at a hostel had proper pots, real knives, even a strainer. Stayed at three hostels in Berlin last month. One had a single bent spatula and a pan with no handle. I think Airbnb and private rooms drained the budget from hostels. Kitchen gear got cut first. Anyone else notice this slide over the last decade?

My go to move now is just stopping at a local grocery store and picking up a small cutting board and a cheap knife. Costs like $5 and saves way more than that in frustration. You checked if they let you leave it for the next person?

Went and bought a whole set of plastic utensils once because the hostel only had one fork. Felt like a survivalist in a kitchen.
