Spent $40 on a hostel in Barcelona and got bedbugs for a week

I thought I was saving money booking the cheapest place on Hostelworld but now I'm out $200 on treatment and bag replacement. Anyone else had a cheap hostel totally backfire like this?

Learned that lesson the hard way too, now I always check bedbug registries before booking anything.

Funny you mention that... my buddy brought a used couch home from some random Facebook marketplace deal once. Told me he saved like $200. Then we saw one of those little buggers crawling across his arm while watching a game. Ended up tossing the whole couch and half his bedroom stuff. Registry checks are smart and all, but I still won't sit on any used fabric furniture without inspecting every seam first.

Is it just me or does it feel like every time you try to cut corners on something big like travel or furniture, you end up paying double in the long run? It's like the universe has this weird rule where cheaping out on the wrong stuff always bites you back harder than just paying full price upfront. Bedbug registries are a lifesaver, but honestly I've started applying that same paranoid energy to any bargain that sounds too good to be true.
