Stranded in Lisbon with a dead phone and 12 euros
My bank card got eaten by an ATM in Lisbon last spring, right before my train to Porto. I had 12 euros cash and no way to call anyone, so I asked a hostel front desk guy to print my ticket and ended up surviving on pastel de nata and free hotel breakfasts for two days. Anyone else ever get stuck somewhere with almost nothing and have to rely on strangers?

Tbh I always screenshot tickets and keep a backup card in my shoe now, saved me twice.

Funny how being broke makes people weirdly nice, right? @nathan851 has the right idea, but honestly most of the time it's just luck and strangers stepping up. I've noticed people are way more helpful when you're clearly in a jam, like they get a little rush from saving someone's day.
