That flight booking advice from a hostel owner in Prague saved me $200

Last month in Prague, the guy running my hostel told me to book my return flight using a VPN set to a different country. I thought it was a myth, but I tried it with a server in Germany and the price dropped by $200 for the same flight. He said airlines track your location and bump up prices based on demand from your region. I was skeptical until I saw the numbers side by side on my screen. Has anyone else had luck with this trick or did I just get lucky with the timing?

Yeah that's a real thing, I've done it myself booking flights to visit family in Poland.

Yeah that's not really how it works though. Airlines track your general region, not your specific location, and prices fluctuate for tons of reasons like demand and seat inventory, so you probably just got lucky with timing.
