The week I couchsurfed through Portland with $40 and a bad attitude

Back in 2018 I had this idea I could do Portland on the cheap. Stayed with 3 different hosts from the app. First guy had a cat that slept on my face. Second lady made me watch her pet snake eat a mouse at breakfast. Third was fine but his apartment smelled like old socks. Total spent was $12 on food I got from a food cart called the Dump Truck which actually slapped. I ate rice and beans from a can the rest of the week. Miss those days but also don't. Has anyone else had a couchsurfing host that was just too weird to stay with?

The snake thing is weird but honestly not that deep. $12 for a week of food carts sounds pretty good actually. What made you think it was a bad attitude worth holding onto?

Wait, the cat sleeping on your face is the least weird part? I had a host in Seattle who collected vintage clown dolls and positioned them all facing my bed. Woke up at 3am to like 20 painted smiles staring at me, nearly had a heart attack. The snake thing would have made me peace out immediately, I can't do that first thing in the morning. Your Dump Truck food cart sounds amazing though, sometimes the sketchy looking ones are the best. I still think about a gas station burrito I had in Arizona that changed my life.
