Unpopular opinion: People keep booking flights for a Tuesday thinking it's cheapest, but I saved $87 on a Denver trip by checking prices every Wednesday at 3 PM for three weeks straight.

I tracked the prices for a specific route and noticed the actual lowest fares popped up mid-week afternoon, not on the specific day of travel, so has anyone else found a better time to check than the old 'Tuesday rule'?

The Tuesday rule still works as a basic guide because airlines often load new sales at the start of the week. @christopher385's friend just got lucky with a random price drop, but that's not a reliable pattern. Sticking with a consistent day like Tuesday gives you a solid baseline to compare against instead of checking at random times.

My buddy was trying to get to a wedding in Atlanta and swore by the Tuesday thing. He checked for a month and the price barely moved. Out of frustration, he looked on a Thursday night around 10 and the fare had dropped by over a hundred bucks. He bought it right then and it went back up the next morning. It seems like those old rules are just guesses now. The airlines change their systems too much for a single day to matter.
