Honestly some people get too worked up about gear size. Christopherstone's golf bag example feels like the same thing, where it's more about the story than the actual problem. Tbh if a mat or some clubs ruin your trip, maybe traveling just isn't your thing.

Remember my old tent from years ago. It came in this huge metal canister that weighed a ton and filled my whole car trunk. I spent more time wrestling with the packaging than I ever did sleeping in the thing. It really makes you appreciate the simple, small stuff you can just toss in a bag and go.

Remember my dad's old golf travel bag that took over the whole trunk. Those giant club heads were so unnecessary. Some gear just takes over your life.
