A store clerk's receipt comment made me rethink my grocery budget

I was checking out at the Kroger on 5th Ave last Tuesday and the cashier goes "wow, you really plan your meals out." I had a full cart of sale items for like $78. She said most people just grab stuff and then blow their budget by midweek. That got me thinking, so I started making a list based on the weekly flyer before I even leave the house. Has anyone else had a stranger's comment totally flip how you shop?

And honestly, that cashier probably does that with every customer who buys produce, but it stuck with me too after reading a study about how making a list cuts impulse buys by like 30%. I mean, I used to just wander the aisles and grab whatever looked good, then I'd be eating ramen by Thursday. Now I flip through the flyer on their app while I'm drinking coffee and it's honestly kind of boring but my wallet's way happier.
