Appreciation post: the $14 meal plan beat my $200 grocery strategy

Been tracking my food spending for 6 months now, and I kept seeing the same thing. I would walk into Aldi with a list, buy what looked good, and drop $180 to $220. Then my sister dared me to try her cheap meal plan app for 30 days, it cost $14 total. We ran the numbers last week and I averaged $97 a week with actual breakfast and lunch recipes. The app forced me to buy the same base items every trip, no impulse snacks, no fancy sauces. I still think meal kits are a rip-off, but having a fixed roster of 12 meals changed everything for me. Has anyone else tried the planner route and gotten similar results, or did you find a better way to cut the grocery bill?
