Coworker told me to stop using store-bought stock for my budget meals

At a potluck last fall, my coworker Susan mentioned that I was wasting money on those tetra packs of chicken stock. I didn't believe her at first because a $2 box seemed cheap. But she showed me how a single chicken carcass can make 4 quarts of stock for basically nothing. I tried her method using veggie scraps and a leftover rotisserie chicken. Now I save about $8 a month just on stock, and the flavor is way better. Has anyone else found a kitchen shortcut that actually saved more than you expected?

Right? Plus you get the meat for meals too. Smart move.

Rotisserie chickens are cheaper than raw ones for stock making too.
