Gourmet coffee beans at $28 a bag, gave me stomach burns for 2 weeks
I got fancy at a local roaster in Austin and paid $28 for a small bag of beans because the label said 'bright and fruity.' First cup tasted like battery acid, second gave me heartburn bad enough I skipped dinner. Tried dialing in the grind and water temp for a week, still undrinkable unless I added half a cup of cream. My usual $12 grocery store beans taste better and don't wreck my gut. Has anyone else fallen for overpriced single origin stuff and regretted it?

honestly the problem might be you, not the beans. single origin stuff is way more sensitive to every little thing, and if you're used to grocery store roasts that are basically designed to taste the same no matter what you do, then yeah the fancy stuff is gonna smack you in the face. i mean, $28 is steep but that's the price for someone actually caring about where the beans came from and how they were processed. plus the heartburn thing, maybe it's just me but acid reflux is usually about timing and what else you ate, not the coffee itself. i'd say give it another shot with a coarser grind and let it cool a bit before drinking, the flavor changes a ton when it's not scalding hot. and if it's still not working, that's cool, but i wouldn't blame the roaster for your gut.
