Held off on meal kit delivery for 6 months, finally gave in

For the last half year I kept telling myself I would save money by just planning my own meals and shopping at Aldi. But every Sunday I would overspend buying random stuff and then throw out spoiled veggies by Thursday. Finally tried a meal kit service that costs $60 a week for two people. It's actually cheaper than what I was spending and I waste almost nothing now. Anyone else had the meal kit math work out better than their own grocery trips?

You're quoting the part about "I think you might be convincing yourself" and honestly... that's a pretty fair take. People get defensive about decisions they've already made, and meal kits are an easy thing to justify if you're tired of planning. At the end of the day it's really just about what you're willing to pay to not think about dinner, not some huge financial win.

Did you actually track what you were spending before, or are you just guessing? I used a meal kit service for about two months and I honestly felt like I was paying for convenience more than saving money. The portions were small and I still had to buy extra stuff like spices or oil. Plus the packaging waste drove me crazy. I ended up going back to my own shopping but I stick to a strict list now and I only go to the store once a week. Meal kits work for some people but I think you might be convincing yourself it's cheaper when really you just like not having to think about dinner.
