Hit my savings goal 3 months early thanks to a random convo with a barista

I was grabbing coffee near my office in Austin and this barista named Jess noticed I was stressing over my budget app. She told me she uses a simple envelope system for her tips and it changed how I think about separating bills. I automated a $50 transfer every paycheck into a separate account and just hit $2,000 saved way ahead of schedule. Anyone else ever get a tip from a stranger that totally shifted your approach?

That barista hitting you with old school envelope method is proof that sometimes the simplest stuff works better than all these apps. I notice people overthink money management with spreadsheets and budgeting software when really it comes down to just hiding cash from yourself. Like my neighbor swears by taking out his grocery budget in cash every Monday and once its gone he eats from the pantry until Tuesday. No app can replicate the feeling of physically running out of money midweek. Out of nowhere these random conversations end up being more useful than a whole finance course.

Actually the envelope system works best with physical cash since it makes you literally feel the money leaving.
