My grocery budget almost blew up at the self-checkout

I was at the Safeway on Main Street yesterday, scanning my stuff and feeling good about sticking to my list. Then the machine said my total was $127, which was way over my $80 plan. I had to stop and look at the screen, and I saw it charged me twice for the chicken and full price for the apples that were on sale. I got the worker to fix it, and my real total came down to $78. Has anyone else had a close call like that where you almost paid way more than you should have?

Used to think those self-checkout mistakes were super rare. Like maybe one in a hundred trips. Had a similar thing happen with a bag of coffee last week. Scanned as the giant size when I grabbed the small one. Price difference was like twelve bucks. Makes you wonder how often it happens and people just don't catch it. Definitely double-checking the screen every single time now.

Exactly, @elliotl24! That's what worries me, how many people just don't notice. It's not just a random glitch if it's charging for the wrong size or a sale price. Makes you wonder if stores even check their own systems.

Honestly, I check the screen as it goes and it's usually fine. The one on Maple Street has given me a wrong price maybe twice in the last year. It feels like people make it sound like an epidemic, but it's just a machine glitch sometimes. You caught it, they fixed it, no big deal.
