PSA: I started tracking every single dollar spent for a month, even the small stuff.
The problem was I kept blowing my grocery budget in Portland. I tried writing down every single purchase, even the $1.50 coffee and the $3 pack of gum. After 30 days, I saw I was spending almost $80 a month just on those little things. I moved that cash to a separate envelope, and now I only use that for small buys. Has anyone else tried the envelope method for random spending?

That envelope method is a game changer. I did something similar after tracking my own coffee and snack runs. Like @knight.xena asked about leftovers, any cash left in my "fun money" envelope at the end of the month gets rolled over. It built up enough for a small treat, like a new book, without touching my main budget. Seeing the physical cash disappear makes you think twice before buying another overpriced muffin.
