That 'just cut one subscription' advice cost me $60 last month

My cousin told me to cancel my gym membership and just run outside to save money. I did it, then sprained my ankle on a cracked sidewalk and paid $60 for a doc copay. Has anyone else gotten bad frugal advice from family that actually cost them more?

Can't believe my cousin once told me to dunk my entire laptop in a bag of rice after I spilled water on it. Straight up said it would fix any moisture damage and bring it back to life. I was like, dude, that's for phones and even then it's sketchy. Of course the laptop was completely fried and he just shrugged and blamed me for not leaving it in long enough. Honestly, family giving tech advice is like trusting a toddler to do your taxes.
