Took me 3 months to realize I was overpaying for my electric bill every single month

I kept wondering why my budget was shot until I actually looked at my bill and saw I was on some 'time of use' plan that charged me double during 4-7pm when I cook and run the dishwasher. Managed to switch to a flat rate plan and saved $47 right away, has anyone else gotten tricked by those weird utility pricing tiers?

Did your bill actually show the time-of-use rates clearly or did you have to dig for it? I had a buddy who found out his utility was charging him extra just for having a pool pump even though he only ran it at night. Took him calling three times before someone explained the whole thing, and switching saved him close to thirty bucks a month.

Laughing at your buddy's story because I went through the same thing. My bill had a tiny "critical peak" charge buried in the fine print and I didn't catch it until I checked the online account details. Called customer service and the guy actually said "oh yeah, that's for using your oven between 4 and 7 PM." Guess my roast chicken dinners were costing me an extra ten bucks a month just for the convenience of eating at a normal dinner time.
