Vent: My washer finally died and the repair quote was more than a new one
It was my old Maytag, thing was probably from the early 2000s. It started making this grinding noise Tuesday and then just stopped spinning. Called a local repair guy and he quoted me $380 for the part and labor. I found a basic new one on sale for $400 after tax. Felt dumb but the math just didn't work out to fix it. Anyone else hit that point where repairing something just isn't worth it anymore?

Did you check if that old Maytag had the lid switch issue too? I had the same thing happen with my dryer, paid like $300 to fix it and then the motor went out three months later. Should've just bought new from the start.

Oh man, @olivia478 that's rough... reminds me of when my buddy tried fixing his old Whirlpool fridge three times before we finally just hauled it to the dump. Ended up spending more on parts than a new one woulda cost, plus he lost a whole weekend to it. Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses with these old machines... they're built to last but they sure know how to nickel and dime you.
