Am I the only one who learned more from one old cabinetmaker than 2 years of YouTube tutorials?
I was installing face frames on a set of maple uppers in a shop outside Tulsa last year when a retired guy named Ray stopped by to drop off some walnut for another job. He watched me for maybe 90 seconds and said, 'You're clamping to the box, not the bench, so every joint takes your breath with it.' I had no clue what he meant until he showed me how he pins the frame to the bench first with a single 23 gauge pin, then clamps the joint itself. Four cabinet doors that had taken me an hour each dropped to 20 minutes and the gaps closed tighter. I'd watched probably 40 hours of video on face frame assembly and not one of them mentioned it. What small thing did someone show you in person that no tutorial ever covered?
