Bought a $200 router bit set and instantly regretted it on a dovetail job yesterday
So I snagged this 8 piece router bit set off Amazon last month for my kitchen cabinet project. Thought I was saving big, but the dovetail bit chattered like crazy on some maple plywood I was using. Spent about 3 hours trying to dial in the speed and depth, but the cuts came out all rough and fuzzy. Ended up having to sand down every single joint by hand, which added like another 2 hours to my day. Has anyone else dealt with cheap bits ruining a solid afternoon of cabinet work?

Hold on, is a little chatter really that big of a deal? I mean, yeah, rough cuts are annoying, but spending 3 hours on setup for a $200 bit set sounds like you might be overthinking it. I've used cheap bits on maple plywood before and a quick pass with some sandpaper fixed it right up. Dovetails are supposed to be hand fitted anyway, so some extra sanding is just part of the process. Seems like you're blaming the bits for what's really just the nature of working with plywood. Maybe just keep the set and save the high end bits for solid wood jobs.
