Changed my mind on MDF after seeing a custom paint job in Portland

I used to refuse MDF for anything beyond a cheap base. Then I toured a small shop in Portland last month that did a full kitchen with MDF doors and a sprayed lacquer finish. The edges were seamless and the paint looked better than most hardwood I've used. Now I'm testing it on my own jobs, mostly for shaker doors with a solid wood frame. Anyone else had good luck with MDF that I should know about?
