Chose walnut over oak for my first kitchen set and it paid off

I had a small kitchen job and the customer gave me two options. Oak was cheaper by about $400 but walnut just looked right for their dark cabinets. I went with walnut even though it hurt the budget a little. The grain came out way better than I expected and the customer was thrilled. Has anyone else taken a risk on a more expensive wood and had it work out?

Got something similar once with a custom order where the client said my color combo was "too good to be true" lol. I didn't charge extra but I threw in a free matching accessory as a thank you for the compliment. Ended up being a regular who brings friends now, so it paid off way more in the long run. Sometimes a little goodwill goes further than squeezing every penny.
