Finally got my drawer slides perfectly flush after years of them being just a hair off

I started putting a tiny piece of blue painter's tape on the cabinet side before I mark the screw holes, and now my Blum slides sit exactly right every time, so what's your go-to trick for getting slides dead on?

Blue tape seems like extra work for a problem a good jig fixes. Honestly, just using a template from the hardware store gets them perfect without any marking. Why add a step that leaves glue residue?

Honestly, why would you trust a generic template over your own marks? Those jigs marymorgan mentioned never fit every single cabinet because the boxes are never perfect.
