It took me 12 years to figure out my miter saw fence was off by a hair

I was working on crown molding for a house over in Oakwood last week. Checked every cut with my square and they kept coming out just a little gap-toothed. Finally got my feelers out and found the fence had a tiny twist in it, maybe 1/64 of an inch. I had been fighting that saw since I bought it and just assumed my technique was off. Has anyone else wasted that much time on a setup problem they could have fixed in ten minutes?

What exactly was the twist - was it in the fence casting itself or just the mounting bracket where it bolts to the table? A 1/64 gap on crown molding runs would feel like your square was lying to you every time. That tiny of a twist makes you second-guess every measurement for months before you finally check the machine itself.
