My table saw motor died mid cut on a $1,400 cherry cabinet job and I need a plan B
Was cutting the face frame for a kitchen job in my shop off Delmar when the motor just quit halfway through a 6/4 cherry board, scared the hell out of me and left a burn mark I had to plane out by hand. Took the motor to a repair guy over on Chippewa and he says the windings are shot, quoting me $180 to rewind or $320 for a new one, so now I'm stuck on which way to go. Any of you run rewound motors long term, or is a new one the only smart move when you've got clients waiting?
That "scared the hell out of me" part got me because the same thing happened to me last spring, motor just died mid cut and I about jumped out of my skin. I went with the rewind on mine and it ran fine for about two years, then started losing power on thick stock, so if you've got clients waiting I'd just eat the $320 and get the new one.
