Old catalog showed me how much our wood prices jumped

I was sorting through my dad's stuff last weekend and found a 1987 catalog from a local lumber yard in Charlotte. He had circled the price for a sheet of 3/4 plywood, it was $19.99 back then. I looked up what I paid last month at the same type of supplier, it was $68.50 for the same grade. That's over triple in 40 years, which I figured but seeing it on paper hit different. My dad was a cabinet guy too and he always said materials were cheap and labor was the expensive part, now it's flipped completely. I wonder how many of you younger guys are pricing jobs now compared to what your dads or mentors did back in the 80s. Do you think customers even understand that a basic box costs three times what it did a generation ago, or is everybody just eating it?
