Serious question - how did I not realize I was cutting my dovetails backwards for 8 years?

I was showing a buddy a joint I was proud of and he just stared at me and asked 'why are your tails on the drawer front and pins on the side?' and then it hit me that I'd been swapping them the entire time, has anyone else done something that obvious for way too long without noticing?

Oh man that reminds me of my buddy who spent two years wondering why his router table fence kept getting chewed up. Turns out he was feeding stock into it backwards the whole time, he just thought it was a cheap fence.

Can't even imagine how that feels but I bet that router fence looked terrible by the end of two years. Honestly though, it is kind of an easy mistake to make if you're new and nobody ever showed you the right direction. At least he figured it out eventually, even if it took way longer than it should have. I'd probably be too embarrassed to tell anyone about that one for a while.
