Spent 4 hours chasing a 1/4 inch reveal gap that wasn't even there

I was building a set of inset cabinet doors for a kitchen in Austin last week. Measured the face frame like 3 times, cut the doors, and when I went to install them there was this tiny uneven gap on the right side that looked off. I kept adjusting hinges, sanding edges, tweaking the overlay for almost 4 hours. Finally realized the floor was slightly unlevel by like 1/16th and the whole cabinet was leaning forward just enough to mess with the shadow line. Has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on something dumb like a crooked floor or light hitting wrong?

You ever try shimming the whole cabinet instead of fighting the doors? I had basically the same thing happen on a bathroom vanity last year, drove me nuts for a week blaming my hinge math. What finally fixed it was I got a 4 foot level and checked the cabinet base itself, found it was rocking on a low spot. Slid a couple tapered shims under the toe kick until the bubble was dead center and the doors lined up perfect first try. Now I always level the box before I even hang the face frame, saves me from chasing invisible gaps.
