That $40 digital caliper finally earned its keep
Bought a cheap digital caliper off Amazon about 8 months ago, mostly to settle arguments with my helper. Last week it caught a hinge mortise that was 1/16 off before I routed all 14 doors. Anyone else find that the cheap measuring tools end up saving you more than the pricey ones?

... because I used to be one of those guys who thought you had to drop three hundred bucks on a Starrett to get a true reading. I figured cheap stuff was just for show, you know? But I grabbed a cheap one for a quick job a while back and honestly, it's sat in my apron ever since, never once let me down. It's been way more reliable than my old expensive one that I knocked off the bench and now reads everything at 0.03 off. Funny how the tool you trust least ends up saving you the most time and headaches, and a buck sixteen is a lot easier to replace when you drop it in a bucket of glue.
