Tried a cheap 5-in-1 cabinet scraper blade and it actually held an edge longer than my expensive one

I was fighting tearout on some walnut last month and grabbed a $3 blade off a bargain table at a Rockler in Chicago, and after sharpening it once it still cuts clean through figured maple three projects later, has anyone else had luck with the no-name scrapers over brand name ones?

Brand name blades are just stamped steel with fancy packaging. The cheap ones often come from the same factory overseas. Walnut is tricky but those bargain blades cut clean if you burnish them right. People get hung up on brand names when it's all about how you sharpen the edge. A good setup on a cheap blade beats a bad job on an expensive one every time.

Bought a pack of three at a flea market for a dollar each. They work fine on cherry but absolutely hated my curly maple.
