Vent: Explaining dovetails felt pointless until that awkward moment at a party

I used to think clients only cared about how cabinets look. The build details seemed boring to them. Then at a dinner party, the host asked me to explain the dovetail joints on their new piece. Everyone stopped talking to listen, which felt really strange. But seeing their interest made me realize I was wrong. Now I always share the craft behind the work. It builds better trust and shows the value.

Right? It's a cool feeling when they get it.

Most clients still just want pretty furniture.

My buddy Mike had a client who never asked about his process until she saw the mortise and tenon joints in her new bookcase. She actually teared up saying nobody had ever built something that solid for her before.
