Visited the old courthouse in St. Louis and was struck by the joinery on the judge's bench.

I was there last week and got a close look at the massive oak piece, which must be over a century old. The hand-cut dovetails were nearly invisible, and the whole thing had this perfect, seamless fit despite years of use. For those who work with traditional methods, how do you think they achieved that level of precision without modern tools?

That's insane they did that by hand.

Right? Just imagining someone hunched over a desk for hours doing that by hand makes my back hurt. Must have caffeinated like crazy or just rawdogged it with pure stubbornness.

Honestly, the patience alone is what gets me.
