Walked into an old shop downtown and saw something I haven't in years

I was down on Grand Avenue yesterday picking up some plywood and swung by a shop that's been around since the 60s. The guy still uses a wooden try square that's so worn the brass edge is almost smooth. He told me he's never owned a digital angle finder, just sticks with a sliding bevel and his eyes. It made me think about how much I rely on my digital stuff now, even for simple cuts. Do any of you still use mostly hand tools for the everyday work, or am I just behind the times?

Ha, that guy sounds like he's been doing it his way since before cordless drills existed. Ngl I bet his eye is still more accurate than my digital square on a bad day though.

And that's the thing, you can't beat experience like that. I saw a guy once trim out a whole window casing with just a utility knife and a speed square, no measuring tape at all, just marking it by eye and it fit perfect. Makes you wonder if we've overcomplicated some of this stuff.
