My uncle's 9/11 take at Thanksgiving made me question everything

So last week at my uncle's place in Austin, he starts going off about how the official story on 9/11 doesn't add up. He pulled out this old book he's had since 2003 about building 7 and the steel melting points. I've always written him off as a tinfoil hat guy, but he showed me a timeline of when the towers fell versus what the report said. It was weird because he's a retired engineer, not some internet junkie. He said 'don't trust the panel, trust the physics.' That hit different because he actually calculated the load capacities on a napkin. Now I'm down a rabbit hole watching documentary comparisons and I don't know what to believe. Has anyone else had a family member change their view on a big conspiracy, and did it hold up under your own research?

Everyone’s got that one subject where they treat a random YouTube video like gospel, whether it’s 9/11 or whether eggs are actually good for you. Your uncle being an engineer makes it stickier, but remember, smart people can still build a whole belief system on a few cherry-picked facts. The real trick is noticing when someone’s “just asking questions” turns into them having all the answers ready before you even speak.
