Vent: My brother told me to just pressure wash my deck without sealing it first

He said a good pressure wash and stain later was all it needed, so I did the whole thing and waited three days. Then it rained that night and the water soaked right in, now I've got gray spots all over the wood. Do I strip it down and start over with a proper seal, or is there a way to fix the damage without redoing everything?

Last year I put it off too long and ended up with water damage on the back deck. Spent a whole weekend sanding and scrubbing just to get it ready for the new coat. That stripping part is the worst, all that dust and chemical smell. But you're right, if you don't do it now you'll regret it come January. I use a good outdoor sealer from the hardware store, two coats minimum. Better to do it on a dry weekend than risk the whole thing peeling next spring.
