Carrots that fork are better than the pretty ones, fight me

Every year I see people on here complaining about forked or twisted carrots like they're a failure. I actually look for the weird ones at the farmers market in Des Moines, they're always sweeter in my experience. The straight supermarket carrots are bred for looks and shipping, not flavor, and you can taste the difference in a roast. I've grown both side by side for 3 seasons now, and the ugly ones consistently have that deep, earthy carrot taste while the pretty ones are watery. I think the forking means the root pushed through tough soil and worked harder, concentrating sugars. Am I the only one who digs out a two legged carrot and feels like I won the lottery?
