My crooked carrot harvest after that crazy July storm changed my planting method
I pulled up 12 carrots last weekend from my backyard patch near Portland and they looked like twisted octopus tentacles. A hail storm came through on July 14th and flattened everything, but the carrots just kept growing under the soil. Now I'm thinking about building a raised bed with deeper, looser soil so they can go straight down. Has anyone else dealt with root veggies going weird after a big weather event?

Raised beds plus sifting out rocks beforehand

Built a 4x8 raised bed last spring and spent a whole afternoon sifting out the rocks from the topsoil I bought. Made a big difference with root vegetables like carrots and radishes. Also added a layer of cardboard underneath to block any weeds coming up from the ground.
