My ugly tomato plant actually taught me something about pruning

My neighbor saw me cutting off every branch that looked weird and told me I was taking away too many leaves, leaving the tomatoes without shade in the 90 degree heat we had last August. I stopped being so aggressive with the shears and just let the plant do its thing, even the lopsided ones. Has anyone else gotten advice from a random gardener that completely flipped your approach?

That pruning advice really saved my harvest, my tomatoes got sunburned before I learned to leave more leaves.

Wait, sunburned tomatoes? Like they got so much sun they actually got damaged? That's wild, I always thought more sun was better for them.
