Neighbor told me to rip out my deformed carrots. I said no way.
Down at the community garden plot last August, this older guy named Rick walks over and points at my carrots. They all had twisted little legs and looked like mutant fingers. He said I should just pull them all out and start over because they looked too ugly to sell at the farmer's market. But I had already sampled one and it was super sweet and crunchy. So which side are you on, does it matter if veggies look like garbage if they taste amazing, or is there some line where ugly just isn't worth the space?

super sweet and crunchy" is all I need to hear. Ugly carrots have way more personality and taste just as good. Rick can keep his boring perfect carrots. I'd take mutant sweet ones any day.

Right there with you on the ugly carrot train. Those lumpy, twisted ones always seem to pack the most sweetness and crunch, like they're trying to make up for their looks. My last batch of misshapen carrots from the farm stand were so sweet they almost tasted candied after roasting. Rick's perfect ones probably have the personality of a cardboard box, all uniform and boring. Give me the gnarly ones with dirt still on them any day, they taste more like real carrots somehow.
