Thought compost tea was hippie nonsense until my tomatoes went nuts
A guy at the Dayton community garden talked me into brewing a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff with an old aquarium pump, and I only did it to shut him up. Six plants that were giving me golf balls gave me tomatoes the size of softballs by mid August. Anybody got a cheap pump setup that doesn't stink up the garage?
Brewed mine in the shed for the same reason, mostly to stop the neighbor from bugging me about it. What cut the smell way down was switching from molasses to plain white sugar and running the pump nonstop instead of cycling it. The first batch I let sit too long and it smelled like a dead raccoon, so now I use it within 24 hours and dump whatever's left on the compost pile. Also covered the bucket with a piece of window screen held on by a bungee cord, keeps the bugs out and lets it breathe. For a cheap setup, the little tetra whisper pump from the pet store plus a couple feet of tubing and a stone ran me about 15 bucks total. My peppers did the same thing as your tomatoes, I thought the whole thing was a scam too.
