TIL my crooked carrots were my own fault, not the soil
I spent 3 years blaming my rocky patch for all these twisted roots, then my neighbor in Boise pointed out I was never thinning them after the first sprout. She showed me one row where she'd pulled extras at 2 inches and every carrot came out straight as a ruler. Anyone else grow up thinking crowded = better and then feel stupid when they finally figured it out?

Ha! I totally thought the same thing, I figured more plants meant more food and never touched them. But now I get it, thinning is the secret, and I feel dumb for wasting three seasons on gnarly carrots.
