Vent: My zucchini grew into a literal boomerang shape this year

Tbh I used to get so mad when my veggies came out weird looking. I'd toss them aside and only keep the perfect ones from the store. Then last August I grew this zucchini that curved almost 180 degrees and I nearly threw it out. My neighbor grabbed it, grilled it with olive oil and garlic, and said it was the sweetest one she'd ever had. Now I eat every misshapen mutant thing my garden puts out, anyone else had a ugly veg that tasted way better than it looked?

Did you ever wonder if the boomerang shape is actually the zucchini trying to tell you something about the soil? I read that weird twisting can happen when the plant gets inconsistent water or the roots hit a rock and it just kinda grows around it. That stress actually concentrates the sugars and makes it taste better, same way tomatoes get sweeter when you don't baby them too much. So the uglier ones literally work harder to survive and you get the payoff. Makes me think we should be paying more attention to what makes them grow that way instead of just grabbing the pretty ones.

Checking the soil moisture before watering fixed this exact problem for me.
